Lionel Messi, 36, has already won it all, but will he go for a second Olympic gold? The possibility of Messi competing in Paris 2024 has been raised.
Javier Mascherano, the head coach of Argentina’s U-23 national team, wants to take Messi and Angel di Maria to Paris, Spanish outlet Yas reported on Monday (Aug. 19).
They will play as wild cards. Olympic soccer is only for players 23 and under. However, three players from a team can compete at any age as wild cards.
Mascherano, who played alongside Messi during his playing days, plans to send his former teammate to Paris to challenge for gold.
“Having two players who have won a World Cup together would be 스포츠토토 a great boost for the Argentine Olympic team,” Mascherano said.
“Often there are players who can change everything just by being there at a crucial moment, and Messi is the perfect example of that.”
But first, she’ll have to make it through the tough South American qualifiers to punch her ticket to the main event. There are no wild cards in each continental qualifier.
Messi previously won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics at the age of 21. It will be interesting to see if she can win her second Olympic gold medal in Paris.
