The KT Wiz snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the LG Twins in the bottom of the ninth inning thanks to Hwang Jae-gyun’s thrilling walk-off hit.
KT won 4-3 against LG in the ‘2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League’ at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on June 6. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved their season record to 64 wins, 2 draws, and 51 losses, closing the gap to league leader LG by 5.5 games.
KT started the game with Kim Min-hyuk (right fielder), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Anthony Alford (left fielder), Park Byung-ho (designated hitter), Jang Sung-woo (catcher), Oh Yoon-seok (first baseman), Lee Ho-yeon (second baseman), Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder), Jang Jun-won (shortstop), and starting pitcher Wes Benjamin.
LG countered with Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Shin Min-jae (second baseman), Kim Hyun-soo (left fielder), Austin Dean (designated hitter), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Kim Min-sung (first baseman), Park Hae-min (center fielder), and starting pitcher Casey Kelly.
Once an “LG killer,” always a killer.
Benjamin was 4-1 with a 1.53 ERA in five games and 29⅓ innings pitched before this day. This year, he has been dominant against LG since the opening game of the season (April 1 at Suwon LG Electronics), going 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA in four games and 25⅓ innings pitched.
Benjamin continued his dominance against the LG lineup. The opposition made a change in the starting lineup, sending right-handed hitter Kim Min-sung to replace left-hander Moon Sung-joo, but he was not easily exploited.
In the top of the first inning, Benjamin gave up a single up the middle to leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki and allowed a stolen base to put runners in scoring position, but got the next two batters to fly out to end the inning. He struck out the side in the second and third innings, and left runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings. 소닉카지노
If KT had the LG killer Benjamin, LG had “Jamsil Jesus” Kelly.
Kelly pitched just as powerfully as Benjamin.
Kelly froze the KT bats in their tracks early in the game with his excellent delivery. He utilized a heavy four-seam fastball that sits in the mid-to-high 140 mph range, along with a curveball and slider to keep batters off-balance. Kelly had already struck out eight batters before the comeback, which was impressive enough to set a new record for most strikeouts in a single game this year, and he was pitching flawlessly through the fifth inning, inducing three double plays.
