Hwang Ui-jo finally makes his Norwich debut → 1 shot on target + rating 6.7…Bae JunhoXHwang Ui-jo Korean derby falls through

Hwang Ui-jo finally made his debut for Norwich City.

Norwich defeated Stoke City 1-0 in the sixth round of the 2023-24 English Championship at Carrow Road in Norwich, England, on Saturday at 11 p.m. ET. The win puts Norwich in fourth place.

Norwich struck first. In the fourth minute of the first half, Gabrielle Sarah fired a left-footed mid-range shot from distance off a pass from Ashley Barnes. Norwich continued to dominate the attack and took the lead. In the 44th minute, Christian Fassnacht sent in a cross from the right that was headed by Jonathan Lowe but was blocked by a defensive body. The loose ball found its way to Jack Stacey, who rattled the net. The first half ended with Norwich leading 1-0.

The second half was all Norwich. Hwang Ui-jo made his debut. He came on for Adam Aida in the 15th minute of the second half. It looked like a Korean derby was in the works, but Bae Jun-ho left the field as a substitute shortly afterward. Norwich pounded on the Stoke goal, but no further goals were scored, and the game ended with a 1-0 Norwich victory.

On this day, Hwang made his debut. According to soccer statistician Couch Score, Hwang played 30 minutes and had one shot on target, seven touches on the ball, a 60% passing success rate (three out of five), and two aerial contests (two attempts). He received a rating of 6.7.

Hwang joined Nottingham Forest last season after leaving Bordeaux. Nottingham immediately sent him on loan to Olympiakos. The loan spell at Olympiacos turned out to be a failure. Hwang was not given much of a chance at Olympiakos. He spent more and more time on the bench and his performance declined. He played just 12 games, including a cup tie, and didn’t score a single goal. He needed a way out. He chose to return to Korea, and he did so in the colors of FC Seoul. 스포츠토토

He returned to Nottingham on a short-term contract with Seoul. He joined the team in pre-season and trained with them, even appearing in a pre-season game. However, he left on loan before the opening day of the season to join Norwich. Hwang said: “I’m very happy to be at Norwich. I want to help the team as soon as possible and get on the pitch,” said Hwang.

Norwich City head coach Davit Wagner spoke highly of Hwang. “He is a striker who fits our style of play. He can link up well and works hard. He is physically strong, can compete for aerial balls and has good speed.” Hwang Ui-jo had a successful debut with a shot on target in the match. He will need to impress Wagner if he wants to get more playing time.
