Hwang Ui-jo finally made his debut for Norwich City.
Norwich defeated Stoke City 1-0 in the sixth round of the 2023-24 English Championship at Carrow Road in Norwich, England, on Saturday at 11 p.m. ET. The win puts Norwich in fourth place.
Norwich struck first. In the fourth minute of the first half, Gabrielle Sarah fired a left-footed mid-range shot from distance off a pass from Ashley Barnes. Hwang joined Nottingham Forest last season after leaving Bordeaux. Nottingham immediately sent him on loan to Olympiakos. The loan spell at Olympiacos turned out to be a failure. He returned to Nottingham on a short-term contract with Seoul. He joined the team in pre-season and trained with them, even appearing in a pre-season game. However, he left on loan before the opening day of the season to join Norwich. Hwang said: “I’m very happy to be at Norwich. I want to help the team as soon as possible and get on the pitch,” said Hwang.
Norwich City head coach Davit Wagner spoke highly of Hwang. “He is a striker who fits our style of play. He can link up well and works hard. He is physically strong, can compete for aerial balls and has good speed.” Hwang Ui-jo had a successful debut with a shot on target in the match. He will need to impress Wagner if he wants to get more playing time.
