‘K-Grillish’ leaves a lasting impression in three minutes

A thunderous goal from Hong “K-Grish” Yoon-sang (Pohang Steelers) gave head coach Hwang Sun-hong his first win of the tournament. Hong Yun-sang found the back of the net in the third minute of the first half to propel the Olympic team to the top of the group.

Hong started the second match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup 2024 Qualifiers Group B against the Kyrgyzstan U-23 National Team at the Changwon Football Center at 8 p.m. on Monday. He scored the game-winning goal early in the match when he deftly turned in a cross from Sang Bin (Minnesota United).

Hwang Sun-hong made seven changes from the first leg. The most notable change was in the attacking lineup, where Heo Yul, Uhm Ji Sung (Gwangju FC), and Jeon Byung Kwan (Daejeon Hana Citizen), all of whom started against Qatar in the first match, were dropped from the starting lineup. Kim Shin-jin (FC Seoul), Jung Sang-bin, and Hong Yun-sang took their places.

The changes paid off in the first three minutes. After a breakaway from the right flank by Jung Sang-bin, Hong Yun-sang connected with a right-footed shot from inside the box to rattle the Kyrgyz net. From the start of the game, Korea’s fast-paced offense erased the frustrating flow of the first game. 바카라

After the goal, Hong Yun-sang continued to pull the reins of the offense, dribbling down the left flank and threatening the Kyrgyz defenders with her aggressive shooting. In the 27th minute, she stole the ball and raced to the front of the box alone. He shook three or four Kyrgyz defenders with his individual tactics.

The Kyrgyz players pressed hard afterward, but Hong Yun-sang didn’t give in and used his skills to keep the ball. Having done his job, he was substituted by Um Ji-sung in the 29th minute to finish the game.

Hong Yun-sang was initially not named to the Olympic roster, but was called up due to an injury to Kang Yoon-gu (Ulsan Hyundai). With his stock rising in the league, it was expected that he would perform well for Hwangseon Hongho, and he did.

After coming through the Pohang youth system, Hong Yun-sang traveled to Wolfsburg in 2021 to experience the German stage. After two years in Germany, he returned to Pohang this summer for more opportunities and to clear his military service. He impressed on his debut, describing himself as “the Jack Grealish (Manchester City) of the K League” in a broadcast interview.
